TBH, we’d probably do the same thing
It’s so lovely to see Kate Middleton back in the public eye again, following a long but very much deserved break after giving birth to Prince Louis. The royal stepped out for a cultural night at the V&A Museum yesterday evening for the opening of a new photography centre. Although Prince George wasn’t there as it was way past his bedtime, she did apparently drop a cute little anecdote about him.
Kate was said to have been given the grand tour of the centre by one of the V&A’s senior curators Martin Barnes, who spoke to her in detail about the cameras and images on display. Kate, who’s an avid photographer herself, was super engaged and Barnes revealed that they shared a sweet moment where she brought up her son.
According to Hello, Barnes explained to her that one of the featured photographers, William Henry Fox Talbot, ‘wanted nature to draw its own picture on the paper instead of failing with the pencil’. Although it sounds super deep, it actually struck a hilarious note with Kate as it reminded her of Prince George.
‘She said, ‘George would do that!’ – that is blame the pencil, which was sweet,’ Barnes told the paper.
He also went on to say, ‘She was genuinely knowledgeable and excited about photography – particularly the history. She was both interested in the technology and the results.’
Kate’s love of photography has been well-documented, especially as many of her children’s official portraits have been snapped by her. Based on the images from the events, she seemed totally enraptured by the centre’s inaugural collection called Collecting Photography: From Daguerrotype To Digital.
It was also a big moment for Kate as it was the first major event she’d had there as the museum’s official patron.
Kate was made the first ever royal patron of the V&A earlier this March and the Kensington Palace announcement read, ‘The Duchess of Cambridge is to become the first Royal Patron of the Victoria and Albert Museum. Furthering Her Royal Highness’s interest in the visual arts, photography and design, she formally takes up the @V_and_A Patronage from today.’
Tristram Hunt, the director of the V&A, also said, ‘We are delighted that Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge has agreed to serve as Royal Patron of the museum. The Duchess’ personal interest in photography, textiles and the visual arts, alongside her support for the role of art in supporting mental health and nurturing young people’s creative talent, fits naturally with the collections and civic purpose of the V&A.’
You’ll be able to visit the V&A’s Photography Spotlight and new centre later this week when it opens to the public on Friday, October 12.
