The Victoria’s Secret show has apparently been cancelled this year

Here’s what we know…

It hasn’t been a good a year for Victoria’s Secret, with it reported this week that the brand would not be putting on its annual show.

The Victoria’s secret shows started in 1995, with each year seeing even more famous models donning their wings and taking to the runway.

But after an increase in backlash – mainly involving the lack of VS model diversity especially in terms of size – the ratings are reported to have dropped, with it now announced that the show would not be broadcast on TV for the first time in 20 years.

In a recent interview, even more details emerged, with Victoria’s Secret model Shanina Shaik telling Australia’s Daily Telegraph that the show actually ‘won’t be happening this year’.

‘It’s something I’m not used to because every year around this time I’m training like an angel,’ she went on to explain to the publication. ‘But I’m sure in the future something will happen, which I’m pretty sure about. I’m sure they’re trying to work on branding and new ways to do the show because it’s the best show in the world.’

This comes after Les Wexner, CEO of L Brands, Victoria Secret’s parent company, reportedly announced that they were rethinking the traditional show, stating: ‘We don’t believe network television is the right fit.’

What does it all mean?

It’s their 15th year working with breast cancer charities

ghd Ink on PInk Breast Cancer Now

By now you’re probably aware that each year ghd teams up with Breast Cancer Now to launch a styler that helps raise vital funds for the charity.

To mark the 15th anniversary of their partnership, they’ve done things a little differently this year. They’ve teamed up with mastectomy tattoo artist David Allen, who helps rebuild the confidence of women affected by cancer through his tattoos.

‘Cancer takes away more than your breasts; it takes your hair, your confidence. But my tattoo is something I decided to have because I wanted to take back control,’ explains Grace Lombardo, one of David’s clients. Like her tattoo, the straighteners are illustrated with the beautiful abstract flowers that David uses in his designs.

This year there are are two ‘Ink On Pink’ charity stylers on offer, both featuring David’s designs: the Gold and the Platinum+. Each sale will donate £10 to Breast Cancer Now – and so far, the partnership has raised over £10 million globally for breast cancer charities.

‘The connection with ghd and this partnership makes sense,’ says David. ‘When I work with my clients, it takes time, we build back their confidence together and these incredible women open up to me. Much like that time you spend with your hairstylist, that intimacy and power of transformation is akin to one another.

Here’s everything we know about Lady Gaga's rumoured new boyfriend

Here’s everything we know about Lady Gaga's rumoured new boyfriend

He has started working for the singer in 2018

lady gaga boyfriend dan horton

We have some news for all the A Star Is Born fans that were still holding out hope for an off-screen romance between Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. The singer and actress, who broke off her engagement to Christian Carino earlier this year, was spotted in Los Angeles on a date with a possible new boyfriend, and it wasn’t her co-star.

In photographs shared by People, Lady Gaga is all smiles as she kisses audio engineer Dan Horton during a brunch date in LA. ‘They were kissing as they spoke really close up,’ a bystander shared. ‘Ironically, she had a table in the front near the sidewalk, so she was clearly okay with being seen.’

We’re happy to see that Gaga is opening herself up for love again, but who is her reported new boyfriend Dan Horton?

Gaga and Horton have been working together

According to his LinkedIn profile, Dan Horton, who founded his own Audio Engineering Consulting Group, has been working for Lady Gaga as a monitor engineer since November last year. In March, he posted a picture on his Instagram story (which he then quickly deleted) of Gaga’s audio equipment, hinting he could be working on her upcoming music.

He is a well-known name in the music industry

In addition to Lady Gaga, the monitor engineer has toured with other artists like Camila Cabello, Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z. From 2014 to 2017, he also worked as a monitor mixer on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon.

His Instagram account is private

Although his LinkedIn page is still accessible, Gaga’s rumoured boyfriend did switch his Instagram account (@dhortonaudio) to private since being spotted out and about with the Oscar-winning singer. His bio confirms that he is a business consultant and audio mixer based in Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Nashville.

He was previously married

People reports that Horton was previously married to musical actress Autumn Guzzardi. The two tied the knot in 2013 and Guzzardi’s last Instagram post of them as a couple dates back to 2016. Fuelling the dating rumours, she did caption her most recent picture ‘Poker Face’, after the immensely popular song by Gaga.

Looks like Lady Gaga found herself another great guy, and we can’t wait for their first official photo together.

Here’s why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle only want one more baby

But when??

Meghan Markle is one of the most talked about people in the world, making news this week after announcing that she has guest-edited the British Vogue September issue – a royal first.

But it wasn’t the cover art or her conversation with Michelle Obama that had everyone talking this week. Instead, it was her husband Prince Harry’s contribution to the magazine’s issue.

Yes, Prince Harry also took part in the production, writing an introduction about society’s ‘unconscious bias’ and its connection to racism, as well as sitting down with primatologist Dr. Jane Goodall to talk about the climate change, something that it seems has affected his parenting plans.

View this post on Instagram

Earlier this summer HRH The Duke of Sussex met with world renowned ethologist Dr. Jane Goodall for an intimate conversation on environment, activism, and the world as they see it. This special sit-down was requested by The Duchess of Sussex, who has long admired Dr. Goodall and wanted to feature her in the September issue of @BritishVogue, which HRH has guest edited. HRH and Dr. Goodall spoke candidly about many topics including the effects of unconscious bias, and the need for people to acknowledge that your upbringing and environment can cause you to be prejudiced without realising it. The Duke described that “[when] you start to peel away all the layers, all the taught behaviour, the learned behaviour, the experienced behaviour, you start to peel all that away – and at the end of the day, we’re all humans.” • Through @RootsandShoots the global youth service program @JaneGoodallInst founded in 1991, she has created and encouraged a global youth community to recognise the power of their individual strength – that each day you live, you can make a difference. ‘What we need to remind everybody is: These are things that are happening now. We are already living in it,’ Prince Harry explained in his conversation with Jane. ‘We are the frog in the water and it’s already been brought to the boil. Which is terrifying.’

‘Happening and happened,’ Dr Jane Goodall responded. ‘It is terrifying. Especially as you’ve just had a baby.’

‘I know,’ the new father responded. ’It does make it different. I think, weirdly because of the people that I’ve met and the places I’ve been fortunate enough to go, I’ve always had a connection and a love for nature. I view it differently now, without question. But I’ve always wanted to try and ensure that, even before having a child and hoping to have children…’, before the primatologist jumped in to clarify : ‘Not too many!’

Prince Harry’s answer? ‘Two, maximum! But I’ve always thought: This place is borrowed. And surely, as intelligent as we all are or as evolved as we all are supposed to be, we should be able to leave something better behind for the next generation.’

Well, that’s that.

Piers Morgan just went after Meghan Markle and Jameela Jamil wasn’t having it

Piers Morgan just went after Meghan Markle and Jameela Jamil wasn’t having it

Ultimate friendship goals, anyone?

Matt Winkelmeyer/Getty Images for MTV

Jameela Jamil is a high profile figure that is never afraid to make noise, taking pride in standing up for what she believes in, whether it’s shaming Kim Kardashian for advertising appetite suppressants or calling out Georgia’s new anti abortion legislation.

This week, the Good Place actress used her voice to take on Piers Morgan, calling out the controversial TV presenter after he mentioned her in an attempted take down of the Duchess of Sussex.

Meghan Markle made news this week for guest-editing the September issue of British Vogue, something that unsurprisingly has received a bit of backlash.

One of the talking points was the cover, featuring a host of female game changers from Gemma Chan to Jameela Jamil.

Offended by the cover and Jameela’s presence, Piers called it a ‘hypocritical super-woke Vogue stunt’, taking to his Twitter account to make a provocative statement.

‘One of Meghan’s “kind & inspiring” female-empowering “Vogue” “heroines” is Jameela Jamil,’ he tweeted, ‘— who called Beyonce a stripper, said Miley Cyrus was a vagina with no platform, & told Rihanna to “put your m*nge away.”’

Jameela however was having none of it, taking to her social media platform to respond:

‘My PINNED tweet is all of the mistakes I made, owning up to being problematic when I was young. I have nothing to hide. You are old and still a problematic slut-shaming, fat-shaming, misogynist, irrelevant shit stain smeared across our country.’

She concluded: ‘He is just the thirstiest bitch alive.’

Well, that’s that.

Stephanie Travers on engineering, dreaming big and travelling the globe with Formula 1

Stephanie Travers on engineering, dreaming big and travelling the globe with Formula 1

Meet the woman helping the Mercedes-AMG F1 team reach new speeds, and all from behind the scenes

When 25 year-old chemical engineering Graduate, Stephanie Travers, applied to be a PETRONAS track-side fluid engineer last summer, there was no anticipating just how quickly her life would change.

Now six months into her role, Stephanie travels the world with Formula 1, and plays a pivotal role in helping the PETRONAS team power Mercedes to its greatest run of success in the F1 era thus far.

We sat down with Formula 1’s freshest member to get behind the veil of champagne showers and fast cars, and get an insight into what goes on underneath the bonnet…

What initially attracted you to motorsports?

‘I had cousins who did Go-Karting and worked within racing, so I was very into the motorsport industry from a young age. I really enjoyed learning about engines, how cars are put together and just seeing what happens when a car runs. I then went on to study chemical engineering at university.’

Tell me a little bit about the PETRONAS application process

‘I was working as an engineer on a chemical plant when I came across the application for the fluid engineer role. There were 7,000 other applicants, and I went through a gruelling five-part selection process. I was picked to be in the final three, which involved a timed race through Kuala Lumpur city centre to find the CEO of PETRONAS and have one final interview with him – and then I got the job!’

What was your reaction after finding out you were the latest addition to the Formula 1 team?

‘When they told me I was super shocked – I kept asking them, ‘are you sure it’s me?’ The first thing I did was call my parents and tell them, because they were so supportive throughout the whole process and pushed me through school to help me to achieve my best.’

What does a typical race season look like for you?

‘In just one season, our team will travel to 21 different countries. PETRONAS has a trackside lab that travels with Mercedes to every race, so I’ve visited places like Australia, Bahrain and China so far. Inside the lab, I analyse the fuel and functional fluids to monitor the wear within each car’s engine and look out for any potential problems with the car.’

How have you found your experience with Formula 1 so far?

I’ve enjoyed putting everything I’ve learnt at university into practice, and just connecting with everyone within the team. Everyone’s been really friendly and helpful. It’s made settling in a lot easier, especially when you’re away from home for so much of the year.’

How does it feel to be a woman working in a male-dominated industry?

‘I was one of five girls on my chemical engineering course, so for me, it doesn’t feel any different because I’m used to being in a male-dominated environment. This job has always been something that I’ve always aspired to do, so I wasn’t going to let anything deter me away from it.’

What’s next for you?

‘Completing an MBA has always been a dream of mine, so I might go back to university one day. For now, I’m really enjoying Formula 1. I’m only in my first six months so I’m just taking it in its stride – there’s still a lot more to learn.’

PETRONAS have just announced a global search for a Trackside Fluid Engineer to provide onsite technical support for Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Motorsport in the 2020 FIA F1 World Championship. To apply, visit PETRONAS Lubricants International LinkedIn page. The search is open until 25 September 2019.

Serena Williams just created a dress that suits everyone

Serena Williams just created a dress that suits everyone

serena williams

Serena Williams has always been vocal about fashion, on and off the courts. She’s never let criticism get in the way of wearing what makes her feel comfortable and empowered, like this cape featuring a powerful message, or that iconic catsuit.

She now has her own fashion line, which her friend Meghan Markle has been very supportive of, and the latest addition to her collection is pretty perfect.

Serena has designed a red dress that is quite literally for everybody, no matter their body shape. It features a twist front and falls around the knee.

To demonstrate how it suits everyone, the tennis champion posted a video of it on herself and six other women on her Instagram.

She wrote, ‘We’re having a red hot summer over @serena. I designed the Twist Front Dress for everybody and every ✨BODY✨

And it definitely does suit everybody.

I am leaving my husband and running off with this complexion product

It is INCREDIBLE

lumene skin tint

Over the many years as my life as a beauty editor, I have written countless lines on the joys of a good complexion product. I have lauded the power of the best foundation, how it can give confidence in times of need. Harped on about how bb creams are the perfect choice for when you want coverage, but not a new face. I have dedicated so much of my finger tapping to a certain concealer that continues (to this day) to be my favourite thing in the whole wide world.

I’ve seen so many pass before me, that it takes something mega to get me excited nowadays.

So imagine my joy when out of the blue the other day, a product landed on my desk that got me so giddy, I quite literally created a new online franchise for it.

Everyone, I present to you said product.

Lumene Invisible Illumination Instant Glow Fresh Skin Tint, £32.90 Look Fantastic

lumene skin tint

Lumene’s Invisible Illumination Instant Glow Fresh Skin Tint… emphasis on the Skin Tint bit. Because therein lies the joy. This is not a foundation, and it’s not really a tinted moisturiser. To me, it is so much more. It is a perfectly light veil of colour that moisturises the shit out of your skin, all the while perfecting it.

You can build it up if you’re into a fuller coverage, but really this should be worn as I believe God intended, like a second skin, lightly pressed into the face.

It works on all skin types – rich enough for dry bitches like me, but water-based and completely oil-free for those greasy madams out there. It has loads of fancy nordic (Lumene is a Finnish brand) ingredients in it, like red algae, birch sap, wild artic cloudberry and Arctic spring water, which are the things that keep you hydrated all day.

But really it’s the way that it makes my skin look that you should be interested in. I am glowy. I am healthy-looking. (Dare I say, I look Scandinavian healthy?!) And I am flawless (yep, I said it).

SIDE NOTE: I hate to bitch about my new best friend so early on, but it only comes in four shades. FOUR SHADES. Lumene, I implore you to create more shades so that the whole world can rejoice with me.

It is my favourite thing. I will take it on holiday with me, because it with soothe sunkissed skin. I will use it in the lead up to winter (and most likely throughout winter), because by damn it can handle that drop in temperature. Welcome Lumene Skin Tint. Get ready for a life by my side.

Larmer Tree: The wellness festival we’ve all been craving

Larmer Tree: The wellness festival we’ve all been craving

Words: Alice Watt

lamer tree

Forget about drinking yourself silly and pack your yoga kit like we did for this year’s edition of Larmer Tree Festival – the UK’s under-the-radar boutique festival where the focus is on wellness rather than raving (if you want it to be).

The vibe

Larmer Tree’s UP is in the unexpected. Sure there’s the main stage headliners and hangovers to be had, but this is all about experiencing and discovering. Be it a laughter yoga workshop, a campfire cookery master-class or new-world afro-beat jazz, the alternative is what makes Larmer Tree so special.

The best bits

With three days of feel-good scheduling, the stunning Victorian Larmer Tree Gardens in the heart of the Wiltshire countryside is where you can chill or party (or both), nourish the soul (and belly) with yoga and jerk Cornish fish (pure heaven), discover your new favourite bands and comedians (Anna Mann and Jade Bird/Ezra Collective we’re looking at you), and relish in some mind-blowing headliners like Nish Kumar and Kate Tempest. Think hot tubs, think gong baths, think Kate Adie. Throw in a late night silent disco in the depths of and art-infused woodland and you get a sense of the Larmer Tree magic.

Image: Carolyn White

The line-up

It might be in its 29th year, but Larmer Tree’s focus on creating a sense of community means it’s retained a really cosy, family-friendly vibe, with a mix of local and international artists and performers. Plus the size of it physically means everything is super close – including the award-winning loos.

The schedule is pretty perfect in terms of being packed but not overwhelming. Unlike similarly sized festivals, there’s never a chance to be bored. Whether it’s travelling entertainers, poets hidden in the woods, big-name musicians on the main stage or a hot tub and sauna situation, there’s always something to do. Comedy and talks share the schedule with massages and tea ceremonies, and with a cinema tent thrown in, there really is something for everyone. And not only that, a massive roster of kids activities, workshops and entertainment makes it a brilliant option for any family, whether experienced or first-timers.

The accommodation

From the plush bell tents with their private shower block and chill out tent filled with sofas, hairdryers and charge points (yes, really), to the family-friendly quiet camp set back from the action, there’s a camp site to suit all needs. As well as award-winning loos – so you know, nothing to worry about there.

Be warned though, with its boutique vibes and alternative wellness schedule, Larmer Tree could easily be on the path to Wilderness-level stardom so get there before the crowds.

Larmer Tree Festival takes place 16 – 19th July 2020.
